Sanford

Sanford was the Penrhyn railway’s brake van and was built on the chassis of a Bagnall 040 locomotive of the same name. Sadly the prototype was scrapped in the 1960’s and was the only vehicle in the famous Penrhyn scrap line not to survive.

This model of Sanford shows it in it’s last form having had the original ballast water tank removed and the chassis extended by 1’11”. The model was scratch built from Plastikcard with the deck made from 3mm ply, using IP engineering wheels and bearings from Busted Bricks.

With the CAD drawn up and the pieces cut on a CNC router this is the most complex piece of scratch building that I’ve done so far.
